China’s Five-Year Plan Offers New Opportunities for Neighbors

Pakistan and other neighboring countries may gain from China’s strategic development goals

China’s Five-Year Plan Offers New Opportunities for Neighbors

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, highlighted the potential regional benefits of China’s latest Five-Year Plan during a conversation with China Media Group in Beijing. Speaking during his recent visit, Kakar emphasised that the plan offers significant opportunities for neighboring countries to engage with China’s evolving economic and social priorities.

The recommendations document, adopted during the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October 2025, outlines the strategic goals for 2026–2030. This period is considered critical as it bridges past achievements with China’s target of basically achieving socialist modernization by 2035. Kakar noted that the people-centered approach emphasized in the plan could serve as a valuable reference for Pakistan’s own governance and policy-making.

Kakar stressed the importance of aligning economic and social strategies with human well-being, stating that the happiness and stability of the population are central to sustainable governance. He observed that China’s focus on innovation, technology, and sectoral growth offers lessons for Pakistan in ensuring domestic stability and socio-economic development.

China’s plan also aims to expand high-standard opening-up and foster new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation. According to Kakar, a wide range of sectors—including pharmaceuticals, agriculture, fisheries, and livestock—could see opportunities for engagement and investment. The former PM described China’s investment in research and development across diversified areas as an “amazing phenomenon,” underlining that neighboring countries stand to gain from these developments.
