Top officials from Pakistan and China are set to convene for the 14th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting in July 2025. The pivotal gathering aims to further the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a cornerstone project for both nations, designed to enhance national growth and regional connectivity. CPEC reflects the strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, and the forthcoming meeting is expected to lay the foundation for the next phase of the project—CPEC 2.0.
The 14th JCC meeting was officially confirmed by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary in March 2024 during a progress review session. At the meeting, the minister expressed concerns regarding the delays in linking Gwadar to the national power grid, instructing the Quetta Electric Supply Company and Power Division to submit a detailed report on the matter. Furthermore, there were discussions on the non-functional desalination plant in Gwadar, which has become a pressing issue for the region. Minister Iqbal emphasized the urgency of addressing these challenges, urging for immediate action to ensure a steady supply of clean drinking water to Gwadar’s residents within the next week.
