The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Yao Jing, met with Pakistan's Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, on a Friday. They delved into discussions regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and broader economic cooperation between their nations.
Minister Asad Umar expressed contentment with the progress of various CPEC projects and pledged to expedite their implementation in the coming weeks and months. He highlighted the paramount importance of establishing and activating Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as the current focal point. These SEZs would facilitate joint ventures in manufacturing, seamlessly integrating enterprises from both sides.
Mr. Asad Umar underscored the need for Pakistani manufacturing industries to join global value chains through partnerships with Chinese companies. The Ambassador affirmed China's eagerness to foster such business and manufacturing collaborations.
The discussion also extended to agriculture, with Minister Umar noting the vast potential for growth by modernizing and upgrading various agricultural subsectors. He stressed the significance of expanding collaboration in this sector, which holds immense importance for Pakistan's economy.
