The Ministry of Maritime Affairs (MoMA) is launching training initiatives to enhance the professional skills of local shipping agents in Balochistan, with a particular focus on Gwadar city.
Federal Minister Ali Haider Zaidi revealed this plan during a meeting at Parliament House, chaired by Senator Nuzhat Sadiq and attended by committee members Senator Sitara Ayaz and Senator Kauda Babar.
Addressing a public petition concerning the protection of local service providers at Gwadar Port, Minister Zaidi emphasized the government's commitment to prioritizing the people of Balochistan. He stressed the importance of training young individuals in maritime affairs and expressed his intent to collaborate with the Balochistan government for this purpose.
Additionally, the ministry has resolved several long-standing issues that have lingered for two decades.
In response to a query about solar panels, Minister Zaidi confirmed plans to distribute them to deserving residents of Gwadar city. A transparent survey is currently in progress to facilitate this distribution.
The Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) informed the committee of ongoing efforts to fully operationalize Gwadar Port, which is expected to generate more job opportunities for locals. GPA remains committed to providing equal opportunities and promoting local service providers.
Furthermore, the committee was informed about the establishment of the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute in Gwadar, a project fully funded by China. Its groundbreaking ceremony has already taken place.
Lastly, the committee received a briefing on the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) proposed by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs for the fiscal year 2020-21.
