Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening strategic cooperation, emphasizing economic, security, and regional stability. During President Asif Ali Zardari’s state visit to China, he held extensive discussions with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Chairman Zhao Leji, reinforcing the enduring China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The joint statement issued after the meetings underscored the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, describing their alliance as a historical and people-driven choice. Both sides agreed that geopolitical shifts would not impact their steadfast partnership, which remains crucial for peace and development in the region. Pakistan reiterated that its foreign policy prioritizes China as a key strategic ally.
Pakistan and China pledged to enhance high-level political dialogue, security cooperation, and economic collaboration. In particular, China welcomed Pakistan’s National Economic Transformation Plan (Uraan) and recognized Pakistan’s efforts in economic reforms. Both nations reaffirmed their unwavering support for each other on core national interests, with China emphasizing its commitment to Pakistan’s sovereignty and stability.
Security was another key focus, with Pakistan strongly condemning terrorist attacks affecting Chinese personnel and reaffirming its responsibility to ensure their safety. The two nations committed to a zero-tolerance approach against terrorism, enhancing bilateral and multilateral counterterrorism efforts.
The joint statement also highlighted advancements in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), including the inauguration of the new Gwadar International Airport and the development of Gwadar Port into a multimodal logistics hub. Future CPEC projects will focus on industrial growth, innovation, and sustainability, aligning with Pakistan’s 5Es framework.
Additionally, both countries expressed their commitment to peace in South Asia, calling for a resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the U.N. Charter and U.N. Security Council resolutions. They also pledged to support Afghanistan’s stable integration into the international community.
Several agreements were signed covering trade, technology, media, and infrastructure under the broader CPEC framework, ensuring long-term economic benefits for both nations.
