The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a cornerstone of the Belt and Road Initiative, is evolving into a powerful catalyst for regional growth and development. Contrary to some speculations about its slowdown, CPEC is undergoing a revitalization under Phase 2.0. This phase focuses on advanced technological cooperation, socio-economic transformation, and strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and China.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, is leading Pakistan's strategic involvement in key events, including the High-Level Seminar on CPEC 2.0 in Beijing and the 3rd Forum on China-Indian Ocean Region Development Cooperation in Kunming. These engagements mark a renewed commitment to solving unresolved issues and creating a prosperous future through deepened cooperation.
The framework of CPEC Phase 2.0 includes five thematic corridors—Growth, Livelihood-Enhancing, Innovation, Green, and Opening-Up/Regional Connectivity Corridors. These initiatives are aligned with Pakistan’s 5Es framework, emphasizing economic growth, exports, energy, environment, and equity, all while promoting modernization and a knowledge-based economy.
China’s invitation to a high-level Pakistani delegation underscores its dedication to the success of CPEC Phase 2.0. The delegation will benefit from specialized training, enhancing collaboration on tech-driven industries, poverty alleviation, sustainable economic models, and expanding trade links.
Ahsan Iqbal’s visit to China also focuses on rebuilding mutual trust and demonstrating Pakistan's commitment to resolving security concerns and operational challenges from Phase 1. As Pakistan and China deepen their cooperation through initiatives like CPEC 2.0, both nations aim to transform CPEC into a multi-dimensional, sustainable partnership that drives progress in the region and beyond.
