President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing regional marine cooperation, emphasizing peace, progress, and sustainability in the Indian Ocean. Speaking via a video message at the 3rd China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation, held in Kunming, China, President Zardari highlighted the importance of collective action to unlock the ocean's potential. He also addressed critical challenges like climate change, pollution, and ecosystem degradation.
Zardari underscored Pakistan's readiness to collaborate with regional and global stakeholders to protect marine resources and advance the blue economy. The forum, held from December 14 to 16, focused on fostering maritime cooperation, with China playing a pivotal role through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The President emphasized Pakistan's ongoing efforts to enhance its blue economy, including the development of the National Maritime Policy, sustainable fisheries initiatives, and the Living Indus Project, which addresses pollution and conservation challenges. He also lauded the progress made at Gwadar Port under CPEC, which aims to become a key hub for regional connectivity and economic growth.
Looking to the future, Zardari expressed optimism that such collaborations would lead to greater economic cooperation, calling for continued collective efforts to ensure the protection of marine ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable maritime economies for future generations.
