Pakistan is hosting the Council of Heads of Government meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Islamabad for two days, commencing today. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will preside over this significant event, which sees participation from the Prime Ministers of several member states, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Additionally, high-profile attendees include the First Vice President of Iran and the External Affairs Minister of India.
Premier Li Qiang will represent China, while the Prime Minister of Mongolia will attend as an Observer State, along with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan as a Special Guest. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including economy, trade, environment, and socio-cultural linkages, while also reviewing the organization's overall performance.
As the meeting unfolds, foreign delegates, including heads of government, have begun arriving in Islamabad. Today, the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Zhaparov Akylbek, arrived at Nur Khan airbase, welcomed by Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik.
