Pakistan Receives First Batch of Chinese-Bred White Broiler Eggs, Strengthening Agricultural Trade Ties

BEIJING: In a landmark event for Pakistan-China agricultural relations, the first-ever shipment of Chinese-bred white broiler eggs has successfully reached Pakistan, flown in from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. This shipment, comprising 172,800 "Guangming No 2" White Feathered Broiler eggs, represents a significant achievement for China as it exports its domestically developed poultry breed to Pakistan for the first time.

The eggs, bred by Foshan Gaoming District Xinguang Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Co Ltd in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Animal Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, are expected to have a major impact on Pakistan’s poultry industry. The "Guangming No 2" breed is known for its rapid growth, high survival rate, and efficient feed-to-weight ratio, with a 42-day-old broiler weighing over 3kg. The shipment is anticipated to yield more than 50,000 parent broilers after a 21-day incubation period, eventually producing over 7 million commercial broilers, translating into more than 21,000 tonnes of chicken.

This milestone is particularly significant given that, for decades, the global white-feathered broiler industry has been dominated by European and American breeders. Until recently, China was entirely dependent on foreign sources for its white-feathered broilers. However, with the successful development of domestic breeds like "Guangming No 2," China is now beginning to export its poultry expertise. Pakistan, currently reliant on a limited number of companies to import grandparent stock for broiler production, stands to benefit greatly from this new partnership, echoing China's past struggles in establishing self-sufficiency in poultry breeding.

This development is expected to pave the way for further collaboration between the two nations, with China poised to expand its exports of breeding eggs not just to Pakistan, but globally, as it seeks to share the benefits of its advancements in agricultural science.
