A high-level delegation from Punjab has engaged with Chinese satellite technology company Piesat in Beijing to discuss the use of advanced space technologies for agricultural modernisation. According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the meeting explored avenues for cooperation in satellite-based crop monitoring, digital watershed management, and disaster response systems.
Led by Punjab’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, the delegation highlighted Punjab’s strategic focus on adopting modern solutions to improve productivity across Pakistan’s agricultural heartland. The province recently launched a PKR 30 billion initiative aimed at promoting high-tech farm mechanisation and digital innovation in farming practices.
This visit marks another milestone in Pakistan’s growing partnership with Piesat. The Chinese firm previously launched a smart agriculture pilot project in Pakistan in early 2024 and later signed a cooperation agreement in June to support smart farming development. Most recently, Piesat entered a 2.9 billion yuan ($400 million) agreement with Pakistan to build an independent satellite network — a step seen as vital for precision agriculture, climate monitoring, and sustainable resource management.
Punjab’s engagement reflects a broader vision to integrate space-based intelligence with ground-level innovation, positioning the province at the forefront of agricultural modernisation in South Asia.
