Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled an ambitious Green Transport Initiative in collaboration with China, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility. Announced on September 2, the project is set to introduce 5,000 electric buses across Punjab, beginning with 1,000 in key cities.
During a meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Liu Junhua, Chairman of Chongqing CRR Hang Tong, Sharif highlighted the importance of this partnership. “China is a global leader in many fields, and we are keen to harness their expertise,” she remarked, emphasizing the potential of this collaboration to revolutionize public transport in Punjab.
The Chief Minister expressed her commitment to creating a fully green transport system in major cities and welcomed the introduction of electric vehicles as a game-changer for the province. She also assured the Chinese delegation of full support and cooperation, particularly in Lahore, where plans for bullet trains, metro buses, and electric buses are being actively pursued.
The Chinese team provided insights into the unified charging infrastructure for electric transport and introduced the concept of bus stop mini shopping malls, adding a unique dimension to the project.
