Punjab to Host Chinese Agricultural Machinery Manufacturing Units

A high-level Chinese delegation, invited by Punjab’s Agriculture Minister, has announced plans to establish plants for manufacturing advanced agricultural machinery in the province. The locally produced Chinese machinery aims to align with farmers’ purchasing power and will be customized to meet regional farming requirements. Additionally, equipment manufactured in Punjab is expected to be exported, while Chinese experts will contribute to the capacity building of the province’s agricultural scientists.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Punjab Agriculture Department officials on Friday, which was attended by Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Secretary Livestock Ahmad Aziz, and other senior officials. Secretary Sahoo welcomed the delegation and highlighted the comprehensive review of the working groups formed between Chinese companies and the Agriculture Department.

Secretary Sahoo further revealed that during his recent visit to China, five critical Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. These include initiatives for satellite-based crop monitoring, revival of cotton and seed research and development, technical assistance for a center of excellence, and programs for high-tech farm mechanization. Recommendations for implementing these MoUs have already been finalized.

He emphasized the significant potential for high-tech farm mechanization in Punjab and noted that, under the Chief Minister’s vision, China’s cooperation is vital to modernizing agriculture in the province. The Punjab government is committed to providing full support and resources to facilitate Chinese companies in manufacturing advanced farming machinery locally.

The Chinese delegation confirmed that practical steps to adopt China’s agricultural model in Punjab are already underway. Cooperation between Punjab and China is set to strengthen further, aiming to enhance farm mechanization and transform the agricultural landscape of the province.
