UoS-CUC Beijing Fellowship Launches to Boost Sino-Pak Research Links

The University of Sargodha (UoS) has officially launched a six-month China Fellowship Program, marking a major step forward in promoting academic collaboration and research on China’s evolving global development vision.

Jointly organized by the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS) at UoS and the Institute for a Community with Shared Future (ICSF) at the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing, the initiative is designed to foster intellectual exchange and mutual understanding between Pakistani and Chinese scholars. The program will be administered by ICSF and implemented by PICS, with successful participants receiving official certification from CUC.

According to Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, Director of PICS, the fellowship will cultivate a new generation of scholars equipped to engage critically with China’s major global initiatives. “This program focuses on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) along with China’s Global Development, Governance, Security, and Civilization Initiatives, offering participants deep academic insight and research exposure,” he noted.

Students and faculty from eleven departments of UoS have been selected to participate. Over the six-month duration, fellows will undergo training in academic writing and policy brief development, engage in structured research, and attend specialized lectures and field visits. Maintaining at least 80 percent attendance will be mandatory to qualify for certification.

By strengthening understanding of China’s development trajectory and the strategic significance of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the fellowship aims to advance scholarly engagement and enhance Pakistan–China academic and policy collaboration.

The inaugural session of the fellowship takes place today, October 14, at UoS, with nearly seventy students and faculty members joining the first cohort.
