Promoting innovation and sustainability through collaborative marine research

Gwadar, SYSU Partner for Coastal Research and Sustainability

The University of Gwadar has inaugurated the Gwadar Coastal Development Research Centre to promote research and innovation across Pakistan’s resource-rich coastline. The launch ceremony took place at the Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri Auditorium of the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute.

The newly established centre aims to conduct diverse research studies on Pakistan’s coastal ecosystems, aquaculture, and marine biodiversity. This initiative provides local researchers with opportunities to explore the ecological and economic potential of the coastal regions, fostering knowledge that supports sustainable growth and development.

In conjunction with the centre’s establishment, the University of Gwadar (UG) and the School of International Relations at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance academic collaboration and joint research in coastal development and area studies. The MoU was signed during a high-level seminar titled “CPEC Cooperation and China-Pakistan Relations” held at SYSU’s Zhuhai Campus.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to academic excellence, faculty and student development, joint symposia, and cultural exchange. It aims to drive long-term coastal sustainability and strengthen research-based policy frameworks aligned with the objectives of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The collaboration represents a significant milestone for the University of Gwadar, positioning it as a leading contributor to international research networks. Through such initiatives, Gwadar continues to enhance its geostrategic relevance and promote sustainable coastal development that supports Pakistan’s broader economic and environmental goals.
