World Space Week 2025 Sparks Scientific Spirit in Gwadar

Gwadar joined the global celebration of World Space Week 2025 with a week-long series of scientific and educational activities designed to inspire curiosity among students. The celebrations concluded with a grand ceremony at Gwadar Grammar School, marking the city’s growing engagement with science and technology.

The event drew active participation from students, teachers, parents, and local leaders, showcasing Gwadar’s commitment to promoting STEM education. The closing ceremony was graced by Prof Dr Manzoor Ahmed Baloch, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar, Moeen-ur-Rehman, Director General of the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), and other dignitaries, who appreciated the enthusiasm of young learners.

A major highlight of the celebrations was a science exhibition where students displayed space-themed models and projects. Earlier in the week, DG GDA Moeen-ur-Rehman toured the exhibition at Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi Hall, commending the students’ creativity and dedication to scientific learning. Certificates were presented to outstanding participants for their efforts.

Students and teachers from several local institutions, including GDA Public School, Bahria Model College, The Oasis School, Model High School Gwadar, and New Town Grammar School, took part in the exhibitions and competitions. Jury members from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and engineering experts evaluated the projects, announcing that the winners would be recognised at the concluding ceremony.

Throughout the week, the celebrations featured quiz contests, spelling bees, debates on “Human Settlement in Space,” painting sessions, and poster design competitions. A total of 58 innovative models created by over 120 students were showcased, earning appreciation from visitors for their originality and vision.

The festivities began on October 4 with an awareness walk from Marine Drive to Paddi Zar Road, led by Principal Nasir Rahim Sohrabi and teachers. Students dressed in creative, space-themed costumes and carried colourful placards to raise awareness about space exploration. Additional events at Government Girls Degree College Gwadar highlighted the growing participation of female students, earning praise from MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch.

Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, also visited the exhibition and encouraged students to pursue careers in science and technology, emphasising their importance for Gwadar’s future progress.
