The Government of Balochistan has approved the fiscal budgets for 2024–25 and 2025–26 for the GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital Gwadar, paving the way for major upgrades to the region’s leading healthcare facility. According to an official statement from the Directorate of Public Relations Balochistan, the approved measures include an overhaul of the hospital’s power supply infrastructure, expansion of residential accommodations for medical staff, and the conversion of the old hospital building into a dedicated maternity ward and medical training institute.

These decisions were finalized during a meeting of the hospital’s management board chaired by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan. Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Development Zahid Saleem, Health Secretary Daud Khan Khilji, and Finance Secretary Imran Zarkoon, attended the session from Quetta. GDA Director General Moeen-ur-Rahman Khan and senior representatives of the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), including Head of Campus Dr. Affan Faiz Zada and the IHHN chief executive, joined via video link.
The meeting reviewed multiple agenda items before approving the two-year budget framework. The board also endorsed establishing a dedicated power feeder to ensure stable electricity supply and updating the hospital’s electrical design. To support medical personnel, additional housing facilities were sanctioned to improve staff comfort and retention.
A significant part of the reform plan involves repurposing the old hospital block into a comprehensive maternity center and clinical training facility. This decision follows the high patient load reported by the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, which treated 36,661 women and recorded 2,866 successful deliveries between August 2024 and September 2025. The growing demand for maternal and child healthcare prompted the allocation of the old building for specialized services.
The administration also briefed the board that the hospital treats over 1,000 patients daily, serving not only Gwadar residents but also patients from neighboring districts and across the border in Iran. Built with Chinese support, the Pak-China Friendship Hospital has emerged as a key regional medical hub, equipped with advanced technology and staffed by trained professionals. The new upgrades are expected to further enhance the hospital’s capacity and quality of care.
